Summary of the Sjoeks/Shooks 2000 Reunion

The descendants of Jan P. Sjoeks (Shooks) and Wytske Hoogland celebrated 116 years in the United States at a family reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2000.

Approximately 180 family members gathered at Ferry Beach in Charlevoix, Michigan, to get acquainted, share memories, memorabilia and photos. (Incidentally, 3 photos were left in a bag on a table. Two are professional poses of soldiers....possibly John and Vernon Shooks? The other is a personal picture of a family...may be John, Ann and son... If you know who these pictures belong to, please contact Janet Shooks Dean so they can be returned.)

Thanks to everyone for attending our Sjoeks gathering. Thanks also for your monetary contributions. All expenses were met including the cost of the headstone for Jan's sister, Feltje. The headstone was set on Tuesday, July 25th, at the North end of the Jan Sjoeks family plot in Atwood Cemetery where Feltje was laid to rest in 1916.

A lot of very positive feedback has been received regarding the reunion. It appears that everyone had a good time and appreciated the opportunity to meet together as a family.

Our web site will continue as long as there is an interest. If you have additional stories, photos or information you wish to share, please e-mail Janet Shooks Dean.

Warmest regards to all!
